2) Shower. You should never go on a date without having showered shortly before. If you showered in the morning before you went out and you have a date at 8:00 PM, you need to shower again. A girl will not enjoy being close to you if you smell bad.

3) Be alone. No one likes to be in the room with a couple that is always kissing. I joked with a friend who did this and he defended himself by saying that they were just very comfortable in their relationship. This is not a good enough reason to be kissing in front of everyone and it was probably a bunch of nonsense anyway. The two are not together anymore.

4) Don’t ask for permission. Contrary to what you might have read in a Jane Austen novel, this is not the ‘proper’ way to do it. You should never kiss a girl against her will, but a lot of the fun of dating is the game that occurs as a guy and a girl try and read each other’s interest. If a girl seems interested you can try and kiss her, if she doesn’t want to kiss you she will pull away. It is that simple.

5) Keep your eyes closed. Kissing with your eyes open is just weird. It distracts from the emotions of the moment and if she notices you with your eyes open she will think that you are not enjoying it.

6) Never start the kiss with your mouth open. There will be plenty of time to open your mouth after the kissing has started; you do not need to sweep in on a girl like a blow fish. Leaning in to kiss with a closed mouth is mature and respectful.

7) Do not push too hard. This is another bit of advice that should be obvious but is often not followed. Just because kissing is passionate does not mean it should be overly forceful. This does not mean that you always need to be soft while kissing however. Allow your passion to guide you but be attentive to your partner’s level of comfort.

8) Avoid the “A-frame” while kissing. Even if you are kissing her with great technique a girl will not enjoy it as much if your hips are miles apart. Stand close to her even if it is your first kiss.

9) Use your hands. The passion of a kiss takes a step up when you use your hands. This doesn’t mean that you need to be sleazy. Even on the first kiss it is okay to touch the girl’s face or neck. Don’t use your hands to force her head to a different position though.

10) Watch your tongue. Never shove your tongue too far into her mouth. She will not enjoy it and doing it will make the kiss end a lot sooner than you wanted. Always be gentle with the tongue and know that it is usually better to wait until at least the second kiss before using it.

Everyone out there has their own idea of what makes up a great kiss.  Some people like kissing to be slow and passionate while others like it fast and furious.  There is one constant when kissing and it is your tempo, or the speed and rate, of your kissing.  When two people engage in kissing the character of the kiss immediately takes off.  Most of the time kisses start off slow and even a little romantic but in a short amount of time TEMPO takes over and turns into a fast pace kissing session.  A couple of things to remember:

1. Tempo can be created by one person but be sure to be thinking of the other person at the same time.  Get a feeling of how they kiss and ease into the faster pace kissing.  Trust us, going to fast could end you up in a world of hurt.

2. Generally, you shouldn’t dive head first into the deep end.  There are times when a intense make-out session happens but most times a tempo needs to be established.

3. Compare tempo to songs.  At first your tempo needs to be like Usher’s “Nice and Slow” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZV4qJZlYdc In the middle the tempo will most likely be faster and kind of wild like the middle part to David Guetta’s “Titanium” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l29N6CGPpw8 At the end turn the dial back down to slow and passionate.

NCMO’s happen a lot during parties, spring breaks, concerts, at bars and of course at school dances.  They are all about having fun with no intention of there being anything after the make-out session.  No feelings generate between the two people, no phone numbers are exchanged and the only reason you would look them up on Facebook would be to show your friends who you had a NCMO with the night before. (Again this sounds so bad)

After doing a little bit of, lets call it, “Street Research” Kisstixx has a little run down on the perception of NCMO’s between guys and girls.  This is not official, done in a laboratory research, but this is the gist of what we discovered.  No need to grab your pens or turn on your notes app, this is pretty straight forward.

This is how girls feel about NCMO’s: Well that can be tricky you see.  Kissing should mean something and the people you kiss you should have feelings for.  Making-out is fun but there needs to be more to it than that.  There should be romance, passion and feelings involved.  NCMO’s can be fun but in the end they should end up leading somewhere.  Now full discretion there were some girls that simply said, “NCMO’s are the way to go.”

If your bad kisser is just a fling, then this isn’t a big deal — you’ve kissed her and now you don’t have to worry about it anymore. It’s a lot different, however, if it is someone you really care about. Kissing can be a very important part of a relationship. You share yourself with that person and by doing so you build trust and strengthen the relationship. It is a huge problem, therefore, if you don’t enjoy kissing your girlfriend.

I had a girlfriend that was a terrible kisser once. She did all of the wrong things. The weirdest part, though, was that she was not consistent in the things she did. Sometimes she would push her face into mine with a lot of force. Our teeth would always hit and I felt like were fighting instead of kissing. Other times she did the exact opposite. She would kiss me so softly that she might as well have not been there. I had to keep leaning forward.

Another thing she did, that I thought was pretty bizarre, is that she never moved her arms or body while we kissed. She was just kind of stiff. It didn’t matter if we were standing, sitting, or lying down. Once we started kissing it’s like she was just frozen in place. I love it when a girl grabs my hair on the back of my head while we kiss and this one never did that. I almost had to consciously plan out when I was going to kiss her; wait for a position I thought would be the most enjoyable because I knew it wasn’t going to change.

Thankfully this girlfriend never had bad breath because that would have been an immediate deal breaker. I guessed, by the way she was kissing, that she was just nervous, so I decided that if I just waited that her kissing would improve. It didn’t. I still dated her for about six months but eventually I had to end it (not solely because of the kissing but it definitely played a part).

Although I’ve never had to kiss a girl that was as kissing-challenged as that girl was, I have since kissed girls that have a few bad kissing habits. I’ve found that it is never a good idea to bring it up. Kissing, in my opinion, should be spontaneous and free, and so bringing it up like that kind of ruins it. That doesn’t mean you can’t suggest kissing tips to your girlfriend but saying something like “you’re too stiff” or “you push too hard” (or too little) might ruin the moment and cause her to start overthinking it.

The best solution I have found is patience and example. If you like it when a girl does a certain thing while kissing, show her first. If a girl doesn’t move their arms then make a point of rubbing her back or neck or wherever when you kiss her. She will like it and she will learn. Everybody is eager to become a better kisser. If she doesn’t improve after a while and it’s bad enough that you don’t enjoy kissing at all then you might consider finding a different girl.

A Good Night Surprise

It was the end of my 5th date with the same guy and he walked me to my door. We were hugging good bye and as soon as I pulled away, he leaned in and kissed me. I wasn’t expecting a kiss at all. I didn’t know what to do after that, so I didn’t say anything and turned to go inside my house. Just then, he grabbed my hand and said, “That’s not fair,” and pulled me back and kissed me again. I was in shock. After that I calmly said, “Good night,” and walked into my house. As soon as the door closed, I began screaming with excitement. Just then I received a text on my phone saying, “May wanna wait till I get to my car before you start screaming.” I was so embarrassed.

Just Plain Awkward

When I was 16, I was the only one of my friends with a girlfriend. My friends were always asking me if I had kissed her yet so I felt a lot of pressure. One night, we were with my buddies hanging out in a grocery store parking lot. Nothing was going on, so she and I walked away from the group up a hill. We stopped and stood there a while not saying much. Eventually, I just leaned in to kiss her because I knew my friends were going to ask me again. It was so awkward. We kissed a few minutes and I didn’t know what to do with my hands, how to stand or what to say after. On top of that, her lips were chapped, and I could almost feel them cracking under the pressure. When we stopped kissing, we didn’t say anything to each other. We just walked back to our group of friends. I remember walking back and thinking, “That was gross.”

He Kissed Like a Wet-Vac

My first kiss was in 8th grade. I had been “going out” with this guy from school for about a week. We met up at an amusement park that day with several of our friends. When it was time to leave, I gave him a hug and left to catch my ride. I had wanted to kiss him all day, but he never made the move. As I was walking away, he called out my name and started running towards me just like in the movies. At first he gave me a sweet peck on the lips. Then, suddenly, he grabbed my head and it seemed like he was practically sucking my face off. It was the sloppiest kiss I could have ever imagined, and I just couldn’t wait for it to be over.

Doorbell Drama

I had been on a date all day with a guy that I really liked. He was dropping me off around 2am. He walked me to my door and I stood there with anticipation, as I wanted him to make the move. We had been on two dates and he shook my hand at the end of both. After standing on my doorstep for several minutes talking he still wasn’t catching any of my signals so I leaned in and kissed him. His back was against my house and we kept kissing for several minutes. Unknown to us, he was leaning against the doorbell and my parents were inside sleeping. It was ringing over and over. Suddenly the front door swung open, and I heard my Dad shout, “Put that boy down and get in here!” Luckily, he didn’t scare him away, and we were married a year later.
